My Story
✨Running for Pete’s Sake✨ In October of this year I am running the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK in memory of my incredible Dad who died in February 2021 of a rare form of sinus cancer (SNTCS), only 4 months after he was diagnosed. My hope for the future is that treatments will be developed meaning people with rare, rapid growing cancers have a better chance at survival, and that GPs are better educated on the early signs of these rare diseases. It therefore felt fitting to raise money for CRUK as they work towards these goals and research a wide spectrum of cancers with the goal that more people can be cured. To start my fundraising I will be running 5k everyday in February. I will be running the same loop that Dad ran most mornings - Naboth’s - which he once wrote a poem about: Naboth’s Up at 6 run to Naboth’s before work Leave the house while others slumber Is it raining? I think it’s stopping Snow on tops as Keeley forecast Up the hill walking, stretching Purple faced milkman talking football Jogging now, knees are grumbling, hamstrings moaning, calves are screaming Past the pub and round the corner Mrs L sits in her deck chair Cup of tea and morning smoke Up the hill breathing hard, quads are pumping Jagger Hill and Thornciffe Green I arrive at Naboth’s Vineyard Loving touch for gate post’s A Now I have turned I am on the downhill Cars are passing for the working day Gary’s going printing Mark’s a salesman “on the road” A driver waves don’t see his face still wave back all the same Muscles warm, running smoothly, breathing easy Paddock Road and Harry Bower Moor Lane and Burton Acres Now returning home in triumph, Naboth’s conquered for today Stretching back and trunk and hamstrings Showered, breakfasted, suited, booted leave to start the working day.’ Fundraising for research will hopefully help develop less brutal, more effective treatments, and be able to save people like my Dad in the future. I am beyond grateful for any donations or support - thank you!!
