My Story
10 years ago, on June 3rd 2013, I received the news that I had breast cancer. Over the next few days and weeks the story unfolded and I was told that it was stage 3 and already spread into the lymph nodes. The period that followed is something of a blur, radical mastectomy followed by dose dense chemo and then routine chemo, radiotherapy and Herceptin. The support from my sons and friends over that time was immense and the NHS and Clatterbridge hospital in particular were amazing. They could not have delivered the essential treatment I needed without the work of the researchers who work so tirelessly to find new ways to battle cancer whatever its form. I am so very grateful therefore to Cancer Research UK for all the work that they do. That is why I have been doing the Race for Life since 2014 and continue to do so. I walk it with friends and their children and dogs. It is an important annual reminder of how far I have come personally but also how far the field of Cancer research has progressed. However, we need to remember that 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and all of them are in desperate need of the research that Cancer Research UK carries out. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now.
