My Story

Hi, my name's Sarah-jayne. I'm a major film buff, love to crochet and the most important thing to me is family. Back in March 2015 I noticed the mole which I've always had, on top of my left foot had started to change. My GP sent me to a dermatologists, who decided to book me in for a biospy. In April my mole was removed. On the 9th June I returned to get my results and was told it was Melanoma. Words cant even describe the thoughts and emotions that myself and my partner had that day. Even though the doctors were confident they had got all the Cancer, I still needed a wider excision to make sure. So in mid June I had a wider and deeper lot of skin and tissue removed. It required a skin graft and a patch of skin was taken from my thigh. I wasn't allowed to weight bare for a week and my foot was placed in a cast and my recover took over 6 months and I still have issue with my foot now. But thankfully on the 23rd July 2015 I was giving the amazing news that I was all clear (Ned) ❤ Fast forward to 2019 and I'm finally starting to feel like me again ( a slightly different pre Melanoma me, as everyone knows Cancer changes you, whether you have fought it, fighting it or know a loved one who is or who has sadly been lost to it, it changes you ) but I'm still me ! After physio and lossing over 5 stone In weight (I put on quite a bit after my op) I finally feel ready to move on and fully live my life. I still have check ups every 3 months and I call my scar my "I get to be here and snuggle my Grandchildren" scar (who are two amazing little cheeky monkeys, who light up my life and make me smile every day) I'm so thankful that I went and got my mole checked and that charity's like CRUK exist and its down to thier amazing work and dedication in finding a cure that I'm here, I'm living and I'm loving life So by doing 5k not only do I feel I'm giving back (if only in a small part) to CRUK, I'm also showing that I'm so happy and grateful everyday to be here Love it, laugh it and most of all Live it !
