Sandy's Race for Life

The Race for Life was something that our dear friend, Sanchia Holmes had on her bucket list. It was very much her intention to be waiting for us at the finish line, no doubt dressed in a bright pink wig, a gin & tonic in her hand & a mega phone yelling, “only 5K? You could have all done the 10K!!” Lol. On the 24th of May 2018, we all woke up to the sombre news that, Sanchia was probably not going to make it through the day & were advised to prepare our good byes. Sanchia’s pure strength, resilience & determination kept her with us until the 28th of May @ 4.30am when she decided, only when she was ready, not before, to grow her wings & let the angels finally take her. Although Sanchia had been really poorly for some time & fought for many years with cancer, it still didn’t come as anything less than an absolute shock to us all. We all had no real idea of the magnitude of how much pain & suffering she was going through because, she always masked the bad days with a smile. She never allowed cancer to define who she was & it was never ruled her life. As far as she was concerned it was an unwanted guest, it was not welcome & she would not entertain it! Instead it only made her more determined to overcome it & live her life to the fullest. Sanchia was such an honest person, she was wise, non-judgemental & wonderfully self-assured & because of that you always knew where you were with her. She treated everyone the same & would be the first in line to offer a helping hand. Upon entering her home You would be greeted with open arms, pulling you in, giving the biggest hug & feeling of being loved. Sanchia was a complete natural with children, she’d let them turn her beloved kitchen into an art studio creating erupting volcanoes, delicious baked treats to eat & promises of, ‘sleepover’s’. She offered so many riches to that of money; her time, her home, her advice, her heart & her friendship. May she be at the finish line in spirit & her memory shine bright forever more.
