My Story
Hi, my name is Sam and I’m going to swim the English Channel. Some of my earliest memories are of swimming. I remember waving up at my mum on the balcony during swimming lessons, letting my lips turn blue so I could keep playing in the pool on holiday with my dad, and the hours of lengths growing up as a club swimmer. Throughout all of life’s ups and downs, my feeling of happiness when I’m in the water has been a constant companion. It is for this reason that I want to combine my love of swimming with raising money for cancer research. The swim is 32km as the crow flies and I’ll have nothing but my speedos, googles, hat and some sheep grease to keep me warm. It’s impossible not to know someone whose life hasn’t been turned upside down by this disease. For me, it was my grandfathers — men of adventure, love and pure will. This 32 km swim will be for them, and for everyone I love whose lives have been devastated by cancer. See you all on the beach in France.
