My Story
Cancer is a scary word and the reality of it is a horrendous journey that all to often ends with grief. As many of you know my sister Nicki was diagnosed with aggressive bowel cancer in December 2014 and after nine months of tough treatments she lost her battle aged 33. Losing Nicki was the most traumatic experience for my whole family and left a huge hole, Nicki was a wife, mother, daughter and sibling. The grieving extended further too as Nicki had a close circle of friends who were also devastated. The toll that cancer takes is immense and I hope that one day less people have to suffer like this. Just 2 months before her death a group of over 70 raced with Team Nicki at Salisbury Race for Life and Nicki managed to walk the 5km despite being very weak and in terrible pain. This year a smaller group of us are racing at Leicester Race for Life. Ryan and Kyle are running the 5km race for life with their Grandma, cousins and my Aunty Mary and I am running the 10km with my cousin Rachel.
