Sally's Race for Life
Derby 5k 2018
Sun 1 Jul 2018
I'm taking part in Race for Life because cancer can affect anyone.
In March of this year, around the same time that I discovered I’m pregnant, my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. This came as a huge shock and brought home to me how it can affect anyone. It has inspired my sister Suze and me to take part in the Race for Life, along with our friend Vicky. Mum has received excellent care so far from both Queen’s Hospital, Burton, and Royal Derby Hospital, and will be continuing with treatment over the coming weeks and months. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in the 5k Race for Life at Markeaton Park, Derby on 1st July to raise money and save lives. Due to my present condition I will be walking the distance! 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. My Mum was very lucky that her cancer was picked up at a routine mammogram before it had spread. I can’t stress how important it is to go for screening, and to request that you are kept on the recall programme beyond the age of 70.
