My Story

11 years ago, I lost my beloved father, Richard Maria Winden, to cancer. By the time he got diagnosed, it was too late. He died within a few months. Every day I think of him. Every day I miss him. Every day I wish we'd had more time together. I did a HUGE hike for Cancer Research UK last summer, for the 10th anniversary of his passing. I trekked along Hadrian's Wall and many of you donated back then. I raised an incredible £2000+ with your generous help! This year, I am doing the Leeds night walk - in memory of dad, but also for everyone in my life who has been diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, there are many of you. You know who you are. I am full of love and admiration for you - for never giving up, for carrying on despite feeling so awfully sick, all that pain and worry and those sleepless nights. And none of you ever give up hope. I'm walking alongside 3 colleagues of mine, Taryn, Marjorie and Shareefa. We are a formidable quartet and we will cheer each other on as we do the 10km circular walk round Leeds. I get the feeling it will be an emotional experience, as we are all walking for loved ones: our heroes and heroines. I am so grateful for all the help you can give. Thank you! Ruth
