My Story

Team Ruth & Justine Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives and in memory of my special Dad who died in Sept 2016,my best friend's Dad who died after a very short illness in Feb 2016 and our lovely friend Nicki who passed away only a few weeks ago. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please dig deep and sponsor me now if you can. Any amount will be greatly appreciated and will make a difference. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK. We sadly lost my lovely Dad on September 2nd 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He considered himself lucky however, as he was originally diagnosed with cancer of the bone marrow over 20 years ago. He went through masses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and lived to see his 4 Grandchildren born and grow up. Suddenly at Easter last year he started having more problems and after more tests, was told that he now had cancer of the bladder. Unfortunately due to the extensive treatment he had undergone all those years ago, they were unable to offer him any more, so a bladder removal was then discussed. This also was not meant to be, as we were then told the cancer had metasasized to his lungs...so there would be no point putting him through the bladder op when his time was limited. He was brave right til the end, keeping his wicked sense of humour until he could do no more as he was so poorly. I will never forget those last days before he died - it was the worst time in my life seeing my beloved Dad suffer and turn into a shadow of his former self. He'd lost 4 stone since Easter and as he was previously a giant of a man, in both stature and heart, this was shocking for us all to see....After all those years, my Dad was no more and we are all still learning to come to terms with our loss. My friend lost her Dad a few months before mine and his was a sudden and quick illness - a shock to all the family for such a huge loss. He too will always be remembered. We have just said goodbye to another good friend of ours, the beautiful Nicki who was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer 4 years ago. She was a brave and beautiful lady who dealt with her illness with strength and dignity, She too will be forever remembered and missed by us all. xx Please, please help us raise well needed funds for this amazing cause...Dad was supporting it up until he passed away and also asked those who came to his funeral to donate to cancer research. It is a disease that affects us all and every family has been witness to cancer in some form or another. One day WE WILL BEAT CANCER! Thank you so much for reading this, love to all who are fighting and suffering - we salute you xx
