My Story
My friends and I will be taking part in the Pretty Muddy 5k this coming Sunday, raising money for Cancer Research UK. When I heard of the plan, I knew I had to take part. This is a cause that means a great deal to myself, and to people who I hold very dear. Another reason I feel I have to do this is because, four months ago, I couldn't run at all. I managed to slip a disc next to my L5 vertebra (the jury's still out on how exactly I managed to do this). With this injury, I struggled to walk, and couldn't engage in any physical activity beyond that. It was during this time that I realised, firstly, how central sport, and especially running, are to my mental health. Secondly, it was driven home to me quite how fast one can lose those things which were previously taken for granted. I am incredibly lucky - my injury only had me out of action for six months. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, and every single one of those people lose a multitude of things which are otherwise taken for granted. So, I am running for them. Anything at all that you can spare to donate is deeply appreciated.
