My Story
In the summer of 2018, my partner Alex’s mum, Halina, was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. Over the months, she struggled with pain and was taken into hospital countless times after reacting badly to the treatment. By the time Christmas came around, however, she was feeling miles better and we were optimistic for her 6 month scan. In January we were crushed upon receiving the news that the cancer had in fact spread, and she was given 6 months to live. We lost Halina in April this year. She fought for four months since her terminal diagnosis, but cancer took her. It was heartbreaking. As well as running the Royal Parks half marathon in her honour, for a charity that she chose for me to run on her behalf, but will sadly not be there to witness (https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TanishaBattersea) in October, I have decided to run the 10k Race for Life on 15th June to raise money for Cancer Research in the interim. I hope that by raising money for this charity, that it will help fund groundbreaking research to banish this awful disease, for good. One in two people will suffer with cancer in their lifetime; and I know that while reading this, you will at least know someone who has suffered directly or indirectly. I have been overwhelmed with donations to my half marathon, so I plan to donate the majority to Cancer Research, myself. But if you can spare even a fiver, it will really help. Thank you so much!
