My Story
Hi I'm Jim Lindsay, age 69 living in Lancashire with my wife Pat and 3 dogs, I am a keen motorcyclist and enjoy riding or working on my sports bikes. The Longest Day Up is a motorbike challenge to travel from Lands End to John O'Groats only on A and B roads, on the longest daylight day Monday the 21st of June between sunrise and sunset. Bikes must have been bought for no more than £300. The participants in the event are all self-funded, Bikes, Petrol, and accommodation meaning that 100% of donations reach Cancer Research UK. Last year's challenge was postponed due to covid and was eventually run on a different route on Aug 1st, which I completed in 20.5 hrs covering 960 miles on a VFR750, kind donations raised over £2200, looking forward to doing the Lejog route. As others have said, this is not a holiday, it is a serious endurance challenge on marginal motorcycles, which have to be kept running! I'm doing it to try and raise funds for an organization that has seen its fundraising proceeds plummet during the last year due to the Covid pandemic, so we need to ensure there is no halt to the vital research activity carried out by CRUK. CRUK has made great inroads into the understanding and treatment of cancer over the last 40 years, increasing survival rates significantly, so your donations will be making a real difference. I'm grateful for any donations, large or small to go to this important charity. Thanks for your support. Jimmy
