My Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. This March I’m walking 10,000 steps a day throughout the month to help beat cancer. Help me Walk All Over Cancer and fund life-saving research by making a donation to my page. Cancer struck our lives literally as a “bolt from the blue”, this time last year you wouldn’t have known anything was wrong, we had just returned from a trip to Norway to see the northern lights and were heading off to our villa in Portugal where Andrew would be busy in the garden building a dry stone wall, shifting tons of soil and playing his beloved golf. There was nothing wrong and no hint of what was to come. Andrew loved life, he worked hard and played hard. He ran his own construction company and had immense strength of character to resurrect his business out of the disaster that was the banking crisis of 2008. He still had great plans for the future despite having passed the “official” retirement age, I don’t think he would ever have fully retired! That said he loved to have time off to travel and explore other countries, usually with the golf clubs in tow. I met Andrew in 2003 and we had a fantastic 17 years together but it just wasn’t long enough. Andrew faced the challenge of terminal cancer with dignity, strength and even humour and I intend to honour his memory through my own personal challenge. I could keep writing about Andrew for ever but I think it’s time to stop now. I am walking this March to raise as much money as I can to help fund research to beat cancer at its source. The challenge for me as a busy Physiotherapist working throughout lockdown is to achieve the target 10,000 steps every day. I will be doing a daily walk of at least 10,000 steps in one hit and not just “clocking them up” during my normal activities. Thank you all for your support and for showing your love for Andrew through donating to Cancer Research.
