My Story
My dad was my favourite person. He was so kind. So funny. So loving. He was diagnosed with stomach caner in October 2020 and in November 2020 we were told that his cancer was terminal and his life expectancy was 12 months. The last 10 months were horrific for him and our family, made worse by the effects of COVID. Him and my mum couldn't have a final holiday abroad to Spain, a place they went every year together. We were unable to visit him during the many occasions that he was admitted to hospital, and on one particularly awful occasion, we couldn't sit with him in A&E where he waited for hours to be seen as he was in that much pain. Despite this, we still found some light moments in the darkest of times. We got to celebrate one last Christmas together as a family. He managed to go on two breaks away to Lytham and Cleethorpes, the latter being with extended family. And most importantly, he got to spend as much time as he could with his loving wife, his children, his grandchildren and his extended family and friends. My dad was incredible and he was loved by everyone who knew him. He fought so bravely and with such dignity until the day he passed on 13th July 2021. The last year feels like a blur and I miss him every day. Nobody else should have to go through what he went through. No other family should have to go through what we went through. So I will be taking part in Cancer Research's Race For Life with the aim of raising as much as I can to aid the crucial research that could help prevent this from happening to anybody else. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life Pretty Muddy to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now.
