Shine Night Walk Southampton 10k 2025

My Story

At the end of last year Hazel, my best friend, partner and the love of my life, was diagnosed with stage four melanoma. After months of experiencing constant back pain, significant tumours were found in her bones, liver, lung and lymph . These were a recurrence of a melanoma that was removed 15 years ago. Although the odds Hazel was given were not encouraging, after aggressive immunotherapy and radiotherapy, the tumours have started to shrink, although there is a long way to go and at least two years of immunotherapy left. Raising money for Cancer Research UK to diagnose cancer earlier will hopefully mean more people have a greater chance of successful treatment and a happy outcome. I would also like to publicly acknowledge the amazing NHS Oncology team at Southampton General who have been amazing in the care and treatment of Hazel. When donating please bear in mind that although a 10k walk isn't the biggest physical challenge, I will be doing this in Southampton and having to pass St Mary's stadium, something that doesn't sit well for a Pompey fan. Also there is the possibility I will be giving Hazel a piggy back for some this!
