My Story
Well folks, as promised last year I’m once again doing the GNR! As I mentioned last time, I first did the race in 2006 in memory of a close friend who sadly died in the event in the previous year and although I’ve always been a keen runner, I’ve never been one for clubs or races so had a 15-year rest and didn’t do it again until last year. Like a lot of people, it was actually the COVID pandemic that caused me to reassess a few things and last year’s GNR was such an amazing experience after all the lockdowns that I immediately signed-up as a GNR member. As a GNR member I’m automatically entered for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 races and although I’m not under any obligation to raise money for charity it was a total no-brainer to try raise as much as possible for Cancer Research. The stats tell us that literally 50% of the UK population will get cancer of some form in their lifetime but it really does feel like we’re on the cusp of some amazing new therapies, whether it’s immunotherapy, stem cells, whatever. Every penny donated to this vital research is money well spent and crucial to keep the research going, so please give as much as you can. Oh and this year it’s back to the original race course and I’m nervously eyeing my 2006 PB of 01:47:04 and wondering… Thanks 😊
