We’re taking part in Race for Life to raise money to beat cancer
Every year we run Race for life.. or at least try and ‘run’ whilst I carry Larni on my shoulders! It has always been something close to our hearts since my dad started his fight with cancer 7 years ago. The last time we ran Race for Life in 2019, myself and Larni, my Mum, my Sister and my Auntie Bee ran to celebrate my Dad finishing immunotherapy and being cancer free after being diagnosed back in 2014. It is hard to find the words but heartbreaking to say that this year we are missing one of our group. Earlier this year we lost my Auntie Bee to a very unexpected and aggressive GBM tumour. She was only 59. GBM tumours are horrible things that are very quick to take hold, aggressive and hard to treat. No one saw it coming and even now it feels very surreal. Auntie Bee was diagnosed in August 2020 and passed away in January 2021. We’d have never thought that this year we would be running for Auntie Bee rather than with her. The more we talk about cancer the more we realise that everyone has their own stories. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. After a year where vital cancer trials have been delayed, Cancer Research UK is likely to see a drop of around 20-25% in income so fundraising now is more important than ever. The 2020 Race for Life was estimated to raise at least £30 million. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. Thanks all - we’ll be raising a glass for Auntie Bee after and you are more than welcome to join. Rhi and Larni xx
