From Facebook, for English, scroll down; Ik wil al jaren meedoen met The Longest Day Challenge en dit jaar gaat ‘t dan gebeuren. Simon Hindley heeft geregeld dat ik in contact kwam met de organisatoren, een motor werd gekozen en het doel was daar. Kanker is een kankerziekte die mij en teveel mensen om mij heen teveel ellende heeft doen toekomen. Ik ben geen dokter, ik kan iemand niet beter maken of in praktische zin helpen. Wat ik wel kan doen is 5€ meegeven aan de collectant van KWF Kankerbestrijding / Dutch Cancer Society maar dat gaat me dan weer niet ver genoeg. Geld is en blijft nodig en ‘t feit dat er op allerlei plekken en door evenzoveel verschillende mensen fundraisers is daar tekenend voor. Zo ook The Longest Day Challenge; op de langste dag (21 Juni) van Land’s End naar John o’ Groats, op een motor van minder dan 600£, zonder gebruik te maken van de snelweg. 1000 mijl/1600km in 24 uur. Lekker dagje sturen.. Dit alles als uitdaging om sponsoring te vragen voor het goede doel. ‘T is als Hollander misschien wat vreemd dat ik dit ga doen voor een buitenlands goed doel, maar zeker mijn halve sociale cirkel zit in de UK en onderzoek is sws grensoverschreidend. Vanaf vorig jaar oktober ben ik met een motor bezig geweest en die was pretty much helemaal af, toen de suggestie kwam dat dit ding misschien “toch iets te gek” was. Ergens in Maart een andere motor uit voorraad gehaald en hiermee aan de slag gegaan. Gekocht voor 100€ (dus ongeveer 550£ post-Brexit) en HEEL ERG VEEL werk later staat ie netjes op z’n banden. De meest legale motor die ik ook gebouwd heb, met de meest waanzinnige paintjob (met dank aan familie Boeijinga) De laatste dingen zijn gedaan, ‘t is nu nog inpakken en zaterdag zit ik op de boot. Op dit moment heb ik al 920£ opgehaald (plus 127£ giftaid); ECHT veel geld. Ik weet dat er nog aanzienlijke bedragen onderweg zijn van vrienden/kennissen/familie/klanten/leveranciers dus ‘t wordt nog meer! Als je gedoneerd hebt; Dankjewel! Echt, dit is een ding. Cancer is a horrible disease that has brought too much misery to me and too many people around me. I'm not a doctor, I can't make someone better or help in a practical sense. What I can do is give 5 € to the collector of KWF Kankerbestrijding / Dutch Cancer Society, but that doesn't go far enough for me. Money is and remains necessary and the fact that there are fundraisers in all sorts of places and by just as many different people is illustrative of this. So is The Longest Day Challenge; on the longest day (21 June) from Land's End to John o' Groats, on a bike under £600, without using the motorway. 1000 miles/1600km in 24 hours. Sending a nice day.. All this as a challenge to ask for sponsorship for charity. ‘As a Dutchman it might be a bit strange that I would be doing this for a foreign charity, but half my social circle is certainly in the UK and research certainly crosses borders. I've been working on a bike since October last year and it was pretty much completely finished when the suggestion came that this thing might be "a little too crazy". Sometime in March another engine was removed from stock and started working with it. Bought for 100€ (so about 550£ post-Brexit) and A LOT of work later it is neatly on its tires. The most legal motorcycle I've built, with the most amazing paint job (thanks to the Boeijinga family) The last things are done, it's still packing and I'll be on the boat on Saturday.
