My Story
Those that know me will be aware that I am built for comfort not speed, so trying to run Race for Life’s 5k (hopefully without stopping to walk!) will be a challenge! I have taken part in other fun runs (I use the term ‘run’ loosely!) but these usually involve mud or obstacles and I’ve not done it for charity before. This time I wanted to do it for charity as cancer has recently affected my family, and cancer research has helped prevent it from growing and spreading. My reason for wanting to raise money for Cancer Research is because my mum was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer (HGUS) 2 years ago which had spread to her lungs. Mum was initially treated with chemotherapy and once that ended she was offered a place on a drugs trial specific to her cancer. So far, the trial drugs have shrunk and stabilised her cancer and the doctors are really pleased with the progress. I’d like to help raise money for cancer research for them to continue creating trials for people like my mum and to hopefully find a cure one day. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. £20 covers the cost of running Cancer Chat for one hour £30 is the cost of running a cervical cancer trial for one day £80 buys a bunsen burner which can help our scientists to ignite ground-breaking research £300 can pay for special chemicals called antibodies, to light up microscopic parts of the cell. Thanks for taking the time to read my Mums story and thanks for any donation you can make. Bec :)
