Race for Life at Home

Sat 24 Apr 2021 - Mon 24 May 2021

In memory of

Mum (diagnosed in 2020). Bear (Anna's Dad, Dave, RIP 2018), Felicity (RIP 2019).

My Story

Cancer. One of the scariest words to hear. The unknowns, the fear, the pain, the sheer horrors it brings to so many. All of this and more. We can only do our own little bit by raising money so those clever scientists can keep trying to find a cure and also try to alleviate symptoms, and make treatments have less side effects. To give people hope, or buy a bit more time, allow them to feel more in control, to reduce suffering, to make them more comfortable. All these things are massively important to people who are ill and suffering. I dedicate this to 3 people, my Mum, Bear and Felicity. My dear Mum, diagnosed with cancer in 2020, just 6 months after having a massive stroke which left her completely paralysed on one side and unable to talk. And she still smiles and laughs despite being so poorly. Her medication is hopefully keeping the cancer at bay for now. We live with hope it doesn't spread. This is also for Bear, Anna's Dad, real name is Dave. He died in 2018 after a very quick decline. The shock and impact it has had on his family whilst he was ill and now in the years afterwards has been massive. My eternal love goes to Anna and her Mum, Karen. Their lives will never be the same now he has gone. You did him proud ladies. Know that. And to Felicity. A close friend I have known since I was 4yrs old. She battled cancer for 10yrs before passing away aged 38 in 2019 having been on many ups and downs, thinking it had gone but then it came back. Treatments working then not working. I still struggle to believe she has gone. So, please give a little, for Mum, for Bear and for Felicity and for those people you know who have also suffered because undoubtedly, and awfully, it seems everybody knows somebody who cancer has affected. Thank you, Love Rachel x P. S. Here's the generic message from Cancer Research if you want to read it: After a year where vital cancer trials have been delayed, the Race for Life is more important than ever. That's why I'll be taking part in the Race for Life at Home. Every pound you can donate will go towards Cancer Research UK’s ground-breaking work, so please sponsor me today!
