My Story
As some of you may know back in April 2017 I was given the terrifying news that I had cancer....those are words you hope never to hear. I instantly thought, as many do, that I was going to die. After the initial shock and terror faded my survival instinct took over and I was ready to face whatever I had too to beat this nasty disease. There was no way I wasn't going to be around to watch my kids grow up and that was all the motivation I needed to face the 6 months ahead. I was told I needed chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy on an intense 6 week course going to the cancer ward for treatment every day. I'm not going to lie i was terrfied! I decided to take part in a trial for cancer research which involved my treatment being monitored along side another lady who was receiving alternate treatment. I decided that if my trial could help just one person in the future then this might somehow be worth it. My treatment started and at first I seemed to be coping well. But three weeks in and the horrendous side effects kicked in and I have never been so Ill. There were times I felt so weak I wanted to give in and had it not been for my amazing family supporting me I probably would Have! I somehow managed to finish the treatment and recovered from the side effects within 4 months. Then came the appointment to see my outstanding consultant who gave me the news I had hoped for....the cancer has gone. I am in remmision. It's not over though...I have 5 more years of regular monitoring and scans and tests but without cancer research I may not have been here to tell my story. Anyway....that's my story and this is why I will do all I can to raise money for the amazing cause that is cancer research UK. If you can spare any amount please donate to my just giving page. One day you or a loved one may need the treatment that they have pioneered.
