My Story
Thank you for visiting my Fundraising Page. The money we raise will help fund life-saving research and to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Considering 1 in 2 people will now get cancer, I am lucky to have not directly been affected by a loved one getting ill. However, I know too many friends, family and work colleagues affected by a partner, parent, sibling, loved one being lost to cancer, or currently undergoing treatment or remission. Cancer Research UK doesn't just aim to find a cure for cancer, to save many lives in the future. CRUK is already working hard to help in the present - your kind donations will help fund research into the early diagnosis of cancer, better treatments for cancer, and even the prevention of cancer. Some achievements of CRUK over the years include: Bridging the gap between smoking and lung cancer (1950s); Discovering the BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes, which can increase the risk of several types of cancer (1990s); Cutting bowel cancer cases with aspirin (2010s). Some of the work currently being done by CRUK includes: Finding a new way to spot abnormal cells that could progress into oesophageal cancer (removing these cells early could prevent the cancer); Researching new treatments, such as immunotherapy; Investigating how certain lifestyle changes can prevent cancer. However, there is still more to do. To help CRUK continue their amazing work, I will be climbing Mount Snowdon on Sat 15th June with Zoi - a colleague working with me in Radiotherapy Physics at a hospital, and a group of other lovely people, to fundraise for CRUK. It's in Wales - it'll be wet, it'll be windy, but it'll also be a wonderful challenge, and your kind donations will help motivate us!! Thank you so much for helping - no donation is too little in helping fight cancer!
