My Story
Running the Reading Half Marathon in April some 40 years after I ran my only other Reading Half Marathon will feel strange. 1984 was also the year of the Olympics in LA and after seeing Rosa Mota win a bronze medal in LA, here's evidence of me finishing alongside her in Vermont. The other time I almost ran a half marathon in Reading was with my wife, Lisa. I had wanted to show her a little of the town where I grew up and the 5 mile run we set out upon turned into a much much longer one. She was not happy! This Half Marathon is being run in honour of Lisa. Many of us will encounter cancer in our lives. There is a lot we can do that might help with our health whether it is to eat well, to exercise more or to be sure that we pay attention and see a doctor if things do not feel right. But there will also be times when the news is not good and help is needed. I am running to raise money for CRUK because it is important that the people working on better treatments for cancer receive encouragement from organisations such as CRUK, both through its expertise and its financial support. I am extremely grateful to anyone who chooses to sponsor me and your encouragement will help carry an older me over the finish line. If you add an estimated finishing time to any message, I will send Lisa's fig print - Quartet - to whomever is closest to my actual chipped time. I am hoping to break 2 hours. A tie split by larger donations. There will also be a show of Lisa's work at Mario's in Kentish Town from which all sales proceeds go to CRUK.
