My Story
Why am I hear? Bloody good question. I'll try and keep the answer to this brief. In May 2023 there is no chance I would have thought I'd be able, let alone have a burning desire to run in such an prestigious, iconic event. A lot has changed in 18 months. My wife and soul mate Abbie rapidly became poorly on the May bank holiday weekend in 2023. This resulted in emergency surgery a few days later. Diagnosis testing, consultation appointments, the dreaded 'C' word bomb shell appointment, chemotherapy treatment, colorectal surgery and tumour removal in December 2023. With an added complication during surgery, and an emergency re-admission on 31st December 2023 @ 10:30pm.......Happy New Year - Not!! 'Rang the bell' on 23rd Jan 2024, surveillance scan March 24, further scans in April 24, then the bomb shell. Its back, and its spread in May 2024 - 4 days before Abz 46th Birthday. Further chemotherapy treatment July-Sept 2024 didn't work. Abz is now having alternative ongoing treatment which commenced in October 2024. Early signs are positive, the first CT scan was good, and we remain positive in developments of treatments and success stories will guide us through this nightmare. In short, I am here in the hope that our fundraising will enable future research projects, which in turn will find solutions for earlier diagnosis, better, more effective and targeted treatment, resulting in improving survival rates. Most of all, I am doing it for my beautiful and courageous wife, who I know will be my greatest supporter on the 27th April 2025, she'll be on my shoulder all the way around. She will not let me fail, as I will not let her fail. That is not an option. As Churchill once said 'Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference'. So whilst I commence my training, Abz continues to amaze us all with her grit, determination and frequent 10k runs (some of these are days after treatment!) Thank you for reading this and please donate to my page today if you can. To give more people affected by cancer, more time with the people they love. Team Bowelbabe are taking on the London Marathon for the first time in 2025 and together we're hoping to raise over £30,000.
