My Story

Paul & Mark’s London Marathon 2026 – Running for Abbie & Team Bowelbabe. Following last years incredible fundraising effort where over £21,000 was raised, were back again!! In May 2023, Abbie (My Wife & Marks Sister in law) suddenly became seriously unwell. Emergency surgery, the shock of a cancer diagnosis, chemotherapy, and major colorectal surgery followed. She rang the bell in January 2024 — but by May 2024, just before her 46th birthday, we heard the words no one wants to hear: it’s back. Several treatment plans since, and the positivity and determination is keeping things under control, which is a direct result of cancer research's breakthroughs over recent years. Since then, Abbie has faced every setback with incredible strength and positivity. She’s a true and such a positive inspiration to everyone who knows her. So in April 2026, my brother Mark and I are taking on the London Marathon (both for our second time Mark in 2024 & Me in 2025) in support of Bowelbabe, raising funds for vital bowel cancer research. We’re running to help fund earlier diagnosis, better treatments, and more time for families like ours. Most of all, I’m running for Abbie — my amazing wife, my greatest supporter, and the reason I know we won’t give up, no matter how hard the miles get. Every donation, no matter how small, helps move us closer to better outcomes for everyone affected by this disease. Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donations to our Bowelbabe Cancer Research fundraising page as we take on the London Marathon 2026. Your support genuinely means the world to us — and will be the thing we think about when the legs are screaming, the rain is horizontal, and we’re questioning why running 26.2 miles ever seemed like a good idea. Because of supporters like you, cancer outcomes in the UK have improved dramatically over the last 20 years: Around half of people diagnosed with cancer in the UK now survive for 10 years or more, compared with around a quarter in the 1970s. Bowel cancer survival has more than doubled since the early 1970s, thanks to better screening, earlier diagnosis, and improved treatments. Today, around 1 in 2 people diagnosed with cancer will survive, and for some cancers survival rates are now over 80–90% — breakthroughs that were simply not possible two decades ago. Bowelbabe Cancer Research is helping push those numbers even further, funding research that improves early detection, develops kinder and more effective treatments, and gives more families precious time together. So whether you donated the cost of a coffee, a pint, or a “that’s very generous, are you sure?” amount — please know it’s making a real difference. We’ll carry every pound of it with us from the start line to the finish (figuratively… thankfully). Thank you again for your kindness, generosity, and encouragement. We promise to earn it one mile at a time. We all thank you for your incredible support — and for helping give more people more time with the people they love. With heartfelt thanks, Mark & Paul Paul & Mark – Team Bowelbabe #RunForAbbie #TeamBowelbabe #LondonMarathon2026 Team Bowelbabe are taking on the London Marathon and together we're hoping to smash our target. Please donate to my page today to give more people effected by cancer, more time with the people they love.
