21st May 2021 was International Clinical Trials Day and the Clinical Trials Units Moveathon was launched to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The COVID-19 pandemic had a major negative impact on the lives of many patients with cancer. It has also diminished the ability of charities to fundraise, which is resulting in significant cuts to cancer research funding, As the Director of the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit, everyday I see the amazing dedication of our clinical investigators and trials unit teams who are determined to continue their life-saving research to make a difference to patients with cancer. I have set myself the challenge to cycle 1 mile for each of the 1483 patients we recruited to a clinical trial during the pandemic in 2020. I want to thank every patient who participated in our clinical trials and to raise awareness of the challenges faced by all patients facing a cancer diagnosis, as well as to raise vital funds for cancer research.
