My Story
Mandy’s story- “Those who know me well, know I’m a fairly private person.. it has took me a long time debating whether to post this or not. I’ve decided that I now want to shout it from the roof tops so that all my Facebook friends, their family and friends can learn from it. My journey started last Oct, I was whisked away on a birthday surprise holiday- perfect! Arrived home 10th Oct- all good! 14th Oct, lying in bed watching tv and decided to do my regular ritual of checking my boobies- low and behold a lump! Naaa, it’s my imagination as there was no lump 4 days ago.. 100% no lump on holiday! Ok, I’ll leave it and check the next day- yep still there! So... then came the doctors, the breast care unit at glenfield, tests biopsies- 2 weeks later... yep breast cancer!!! 2 weeks after that surgery.. lump removed, cancer not spread- thank god!!! I found it early. I was on cloud nine for all of 60 seconds as although I was cancer free it was a stage 3 aggressive cancer that wasn’t oestrogen fed!! So I’d got to have chemotherapy.. I’m now 3 treatments in.. the first week after chemo is hell on earth but it’s worth it.. it could have been so much worse- if I hadn’t found it early it could have been a completely different story. So the moral of the story is please, please check your boobs regularly, please tell everyone you know to check too. It doesn’t matter if you are a woman or a man, this vile disease doesn’t discriminate.. don’t be complacent and think is will not happen to me, I use to think that. I’m generally ok so don’t worry about me, all I want from you is to spread the word!!!”
