My Story
In the Autumn of 2019 I was diagnosed with Cancer. Since this time i have received treatment at Leeds Cancer Centre in the form of Chemo/Radiotherapy, and I am now waiting for the results from this treatment and pray it has successfully got rid of the dreaded imposter that is Cancer. Throughout my treatment I felt pretty shit however i was determined that i would continue to look after and ride my horses as they are my 'happy place'. I didn't miss a day riding unless it was an all day treatment in hospital, but i mucked them out every day without fail. The doctors and nurses at the Cancer Centre were enabling rather than disabling and supported my determination to ride. I cannot thank the team at Leeds Cancer Centre enough, they along with my family and close friends helped me cope with the treatment. Cancer treatment is constantly evolving, the drugs and practises are now very targeted which in my case meant that the side effects from the Radiotherapy were localised and from the Chemotherapy controlled. Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives.
