My Story
Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s ground breaking work, so please sponsor me now. In May 2021 I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ - a pre-cancerous condition that could well turn into breast cancer in the future. If it wasn't for our marvellous NHS screening programme, who knows when this would have been picked up. There was nothing to feel, no visible change. I had a single mastectomy and reconstruction on 19th August 2021. As my wonderful breast consultant told me at 9am one morning "This is not bad news." He went on to say "This is not the worst news I've ever given. This is not the worst news I've given today." Everything went well and I'm healing nicely. So I'm doing the Race for Life for myself, in memory of my wonderful Dad who wasn't as lucky and my dear friend Lea who was the recipient of worse news than I was. Also all the ladies who are bravely battling and giving me support in Plymouth's Bosom Pals group. Please please please go for your smears, your mammograms etc. They are life saving procedures.
