2023 Blenheim Palace Triathlon Saturday Sprint

My Story
On June 3rd I will be taking part in the Blenheim Triathlon in support Cancer Research. I am hoping to raise money but also awareness of skin cancer in men. I lost my Dad when I was 6 to skin cancer, the only memories I have of him are visiting him at the amazing Royal Marsden hospital. His father had died a few years before of the same disease. In later years my maternal grandfather died of the disease and during Covid my step father was also diagnosed with melanoma. Growing up my Mum would say to me that science would improve and less people would die of skin cancer because diagnosis and treatments would advance. She was right in relation to scientific progress however Over the last 10 years, melanoma skin cancer among men in the UK has increased by almost 50%. Men are also more likely to be diagnosed at a later stage than women. This genuinely doesn’t need to be the case we shouldn’t be in this position in 2023. I hope that you will either sponsor me in support of cancer research but at the very least read the following: https://news.cancerresearchuk.org/2021/06/24/mens-skin-cancer-rates-increase-by-50-over-decade/amp It has been quite the experience getting to this point as a first time triathlon participant. Thanks to my wonderful brother JP who has trained this wobbly non cyclist into someone who almost stays upright. Then there is my stoic training partner Becky Cund also raising money for cancer research. Becky has her own incredible story and certainly inspires me to keep training on the days I want to give up. Here’s to making a small difference!
