My Story

Since tearing a load of ligaments and cartilage in 2013 playing rugby, i've been looking for a new challenge, and something which can provide some entertainment for, or help, other people. I had previously entered Ironman UK for Macmillan cancer but had to withdraw as my knee was not ready. Having recently had another surgery, it's time for another challenge! I'll be completing the Outlaw Half on May 19th 2019 at Holme Pierrpont, the National Watersports Centre. The swim is a 1.2 mile swim in the Regatta Lake, followed by a 56 Mile bike leg around Nottinghamshire, followed by a 13.1 Mile (Half Marathon) around the lake and alongside the River Trent. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Working in a school with over 1300 students, and looking at recent cancer statistics, it is expected that 1 in 2 people could get cancer, of some sort, in their lifetime. Of those people, 50% survive ten or more years. This number is unacceptable. Just looking around our classrooms, it is likely that in some way, shape or form, people not affected by cancer will be the minority. Each day around 990 people will be diagnosed (on average) with some form of cancer. That's more than 2/3rds of our school population...EACH DAY. Of all diagnosis's, 38% of cases are preventable. Through the money raised we can, together, raise awareness of the damage cancer can cause to our friends, family, colleagues and our communities. The number of people surviving will increase, and through more awareness, more preventable cases will be avoided.
