Newick RFC Kicks Cancer Into Touch
In memory of
Newick RFC Chairman, Legend & Friend Wayne 'Wobbly' Thomas
Update 15th December This page was set up in April 2019 to support a fundraising event that Wayne wanted to organise for Cancer Research. Having been diagnosed with Cancer himself, he wanted to do what he could, whilst he could, to raise vital funds to find a way to 'Kick Cancer into Touch'. No one expected the total amount of money raised to reach the levels it did, and Wayne was keen to do another event in 2020. However, cancer won the battle. On 14th December, after a brave, dignified and valiant effort, Wayne lost his fight against cancer. One of life's greats was taken far too early - but cancer will not win the war. In Wayne's memory, as Newick RFC, we will continue to do all we can to raise the vital funds needed to 'Kick Cancer into Touch'. Over this weekend, Newick RFC have had their Christmas Tree entry 'O Scrum All Ye Faithful' at Newick Church. 90 miniature 'singing' christmas trees made up the display - and in memory of Wayne, and to raise MORE money for his chosen Charity CANCER RESEARCH, we will be making the trees available to buy! Minimum donation £10 per tree. Donate here putting Xmas Tree in the Comment box - once they are gone - they are gone! WE LOVE YOU WOBBLY - The stars will shine a little brighter x Thanks for taking the time to visit the NEWICK RFC KICKS CANCER INTO TOUCH fundraising page. Cancer is happening right now, it effects all of us in some way and Newick RFC want to take a stand. In July 2018, Newick RFC Chairman, ex first team captain and all round good egg Wayne Thomas, was diagnosed with esophageal & liver Cancer. The cancer is inoperable, but after smashing a course of chemotherapy it has shrunk. To celebrate the end of this treatment and to raise money to support cancer research, Wayne and the team at Newick RFC are pulling together to KICK CANCER INTO TOUCH. On 6th April, 2019 Newick RFC will host a Charity Rugby Game to raise important funds for Cancer Research. The game will involve Newick RFC stars, both past and present and maybe a few familiar faces! Kicking off at 1:30pm at the King George V Playing fields come along and support the team. Along with a very entertaining game, there will be a BBQ, Bar, giant raffle with amazing prizes. PLUS, join us in the evening where we will continue to put the FUN into FUNDRASING with a Hog Roast and Disco. PLUS - April is Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month!! Keep up to date with all the plans for the day by following us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/NewickRFC If you can't make it, but want to support or if you're just feeling extra generous, please bung us a few quid and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
CAUSE
Oesophageal cancer
Oesophageal cancer rates are rising in the UK, and it's one of the hardest cancers to treat. It’s the sixth most common cause of cancer death and survival rates are poor. Help fund one of Cancer Research UK's top priorities – finding ways to improve survival from the disease.
