My Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I’m going to be cycling 300 miles in July to help raise money for Cancer Research UK. Please show your support and help fund life-saving research by donating to my page. Our last few Christmas’s haven’t been the best. Just days before Christmas last year we lost my wife’s Uncle John suddenly, and 2 years prior to that, on 23rd December 2022 we lost John’s wife Pauline to Cancer. Losing Pauline to this horrible disease was something I hope you never have to go through, and if you have, or you are, my heart goes out to you. But myself having only known Pauline for a relatively short time, it was still such a bombshell to deal with, but the pain for Paulines family, and Carole and her family was immense. Over the last 40 years, cancer survival in the UK has doubled. In the 1970s just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today 2 in 4 survive. The ambition is to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034. Cancer Research UK was formed more than 20 years ago, in 2002. However, their history goes back much further, to 1902, with the founding of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Thanks to supporters like you, the pioneering work into how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer has benefitted millions of lives over the past 120 years. So……From the 1st July, I’m taking part in the Cycle 300 Miles in July Challenge, and by taking part in this challenge I’m helping in the funding of long-term cancer research. We are going away mid July to Madeira in Portugal, so part of this challenge will be done there. I’ll start on the 1st, and finish (hopefully🙈) on the 31st. Wish me luck!! 😁 Thanks for reading, but now the important bit. My fundraising page. Please show your support and help fund life-saving research by donating to my page.
