In just a few months, my excellent grandmother Wend will be having her final check-up before being given the all-clear after five years of being cancer-free. It was only through such an early diagnosis that she only needed one operation and no chemotherapy - that early diagnosis was only possible because of the research being done into cancer. I cannot be more thankful that she is still around to get stuck in the back of cars, fall over into the bath, and make such brilliant comments as "Dolly Pardon" and "Mataland."
