My Story
Jacob's Housemate & good friend, Dan Bishop received the terrible news we all fear in May 2015. Dan was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma & commenced the traumatic & emotional Chemo Treatment. Thankfully that Summer, Dan received the good news that he had reacted well to treatment & received the all clear. This brief message doesn't do justice to the impact that Cancer & it's treatment has on the Patient, their friends & family. Dan started a Blog diarising his journey which was humbling yet inspirational to all that followed it. He kept everyone very well informed as well as keeping his amazing wit & humour throughout. For those that kindly donated, Jacob ran his first Half Marathon in March 2016 in aid of the Lymphoma Society for Dan. We had the heart wrenching news earlier this year that Dan had the Cancer return as he was just turning 25 years old. I, as a mother can't even think what that must feel to a young person with so much to live for, without tears in my eyes. Dan's treatment commenced immediately but this time as an in-patient. Again, Dan has kept so positive & inspirational, keeping us updated via his Blog. I am so happy to inform you that Dan has recently had the all clear for the second time which is overwhelming news. He is currently undergoing a Stem Cell Transplant (Bone Marrow Transplant) which we send our warmest wishes to him for a speedy recovery. Rather than walk the 5K in memory of my Grandparents that both died of Cancer, myself & Ellie are entering in celebration to the wonderful work Cancer Research does & to Dan who has undergone treatment hopefully for the second & final time. It is also to thank Dan for showing us how lucky we are if we have come this far in our lives without illness. Also, for being a cherished & supportive friend to my Son, Jacob. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
