My Story

Cancer Research UK is a charity that is incredibly close to my heart, not only because of the vital work it does, but because of the people I love whose lives have been touched by cancer. My late great-grandma lived with breast cancer and, thankfully, went on to live a long and full life, passing away peacefully of old age. Her strength showed me that cancer does not always define a person — and that research, care, and support truly make a difference. However, I have also seen the heartbreaking reality of this disease. I have watched dear friends lose their mothers to breast cancer, and those losses stay with you forever. They are a powerful reminder of why early diagnosis, continued research, and improved treatments are so essential. Most personally, my amazing cousin Kara Buchanan, who lives in California, was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago. Although the cancer later spread, Kara continues to face her journey with incredible strength, positivity, and courage. Thanks to ongoing research and new treatments becoming available, she has beaten cancer in several areas and continues to fight others with hope and determination. Her journey is a living example of why charities like Cancer Research UK are so vital — because research saves lives, extends lives, and gives families precious time together. I chose to take part in Ms Great Britain Surrey because it is about so much more than a pageant. It is a supportive community of women who uplift one another, come together through organised meet-ups, and use their voices to create meaningful change. This journey allows me to raise awareness, support life-saving research, and stand alongside women who believe in strength, unity, and purpose. Every step I take as a finalist is inspired by the people I carry with me, the stories that shape me, and the hope that together we can help improve outcomes for future generations.
