My Story

Wow thank you all SO much for your amazing, generous and kind donations. Like Moyra I've smashed my target so I've doubled it! Thank you thank you 💕🥰 Welcome to my first ever fundraising page! Hello lovely people! If I can get my walking legs back AND raise money for Cancer Research UK at the same time, 2021 will continue to be a good year! Please donate during March 2021 and keep me motivated 🥰. Forever in memory of Papa Bruce - I will make you proud Dad 💕 Unlike many, I’m thankful to covid for coming along and forcing us into lockdown as well as the lessons learned, as it’s enabled me to recover from my cancer diagnosis and operation more than I think I would have, had normal life resumed in 2020. It’s also highlighted to me that there is a potential lack of government, political, medical, scientific and pharmaceutical investment into researching and finding a cure for cancer, compared to these ‘coronas’ - yet statistically cancer may affect and kill more people. Just an interesting thought for the moment. This is the reason I walk for cancer in March 2021. My story - I was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer, also known as CCA) in Oct/Nov 2019 - this is one of the rare cancers which really does require lots more education, funding and research. On my 2nd Wedding anniversary I had a biopsy of my liver (never again!) and also referred to a Urologist, which resulted in my agreement to have my right kidney removed at the same time a % of my liver was removed, 10 days later on 9 December 2019. After the op it was confirmed I was stage 2 CCA and stage 1 clear cell renal cancer. ‘Cured’ of my kidney cancer and with one lonesome kidney, I also had 30% of my liver removed and a 900g tumor, and the understanding of what a major op was! As with all CCA cases, the risk of CCA returning in my liver or somewhere else in my body remains high. This has resulted in an emotional and psychological journey for me during the last year. With my MrP by my side and with the help and support of a recent cancer coaching group, I’m getting my life back Step by step, and focusing again on my future - something that has been noticeably missing since my cancer journey started at the end of 2019. I’m so grateful for the lockdown time to recover, to my family who looked after me post-op and family/friends who kept in touch during a difficult time, to Dr Juan Valle my CCA expert at The Christie in Manchester, my local Drs surgery Park View in Reddish, and to my medical team at Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai - Dr Hemant (Dr H) and Dr Farhad. Mostly, thanks to my hero and my everything, MrP, there are no words, you’re just amazing and thank you xx. Now, it’s time to get my new back support on, my asic trainers on, my new hoodies (and maybe I should add some more clothes too!) and to get my legs moving again outside, to force me to get my health and fitness Even more back on track. To walk 10k steps a day is a big challenge for me currently but I can do it and I will do. ‘Anything is possible, and possible is everything!’ Please help me raise some Much needed money to enable Cancer Research UK find a cure for this rare cancer cholangiocarcinoma - bile duct cancer - CCA. Thank you lots for reading and supporting. ‘Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m fundraising right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Donate to my page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.‘
