In memory of
Hayley Wright
I’m doing Race for Life this year with my lovely friend, Emma who ran it for me last year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was incredibly thankful to her for helping to raise money for Cancer Research and, now I am recovered, would like to do the same. When I race this year, I will have lots of people in mind, but one person in particular I will be thinking of is Hayley Wright. I was incredibly sad to hear recently that Hayley lost her life this year after an ongoing battle with cancer. Although I can’t claim to know Hayley well (our only connection being age and upper school), like me, Hayley was a daughter, wife, mother and friend, and I hope to honour her memory by taking part in RFL this year as well as express my deepest, heartfelt sympathy to those who knew and loved her. Not only do I wish to help raise money to try to prevent lives like Hayley’s being lost, for me, it is also a way to express my gratitude for life saving research that means I am I’m lucky enough to be a survivor at this point in time and to still have my wonderful mum, 2 x breast cancer survivor, as well as many great friends. And finally, I would also like to recognise those brave ladies who I have met along the way, who have been on this cancer journey with me or are still going through it; Sue, Kimber, Joanne, Vicky, Wendy, Amy, Manda, Danielle and Lucinda, thank you so much for your support; I’m with you all the way. Just one more thing.. I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to my ‘boys’.. and all my family and friends for supporting me in every possible way I could imagine through my own cancer journey.. to say I feel blessed to have such lovely people around me is an understatement. For all your thoughtful gifts, cards, messages, practical support, words of encouragement, hugs.. just all the love, I am forever grateful 💕 Other stuff to know 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
