My Story

Cancer effects the lives of so many every day. It doesn't care what age you are, if your male or female, young or old, it has no religious or skin colour preference..... it's pure EVIL. This year cancer has raised its ugly head, affecting 2 special people in my family; My beloved, strong yet totally bonkers Nan, the head of the Robinson household and not one to be messed with, was diagnosed with bowel and ovarian cancer earlier this year. At 92 she still continues to defy us all with her head strong stubbornness and reluctance to ever do anything quietly. We follow her lead for each day is precious and she be dammed if she's going down without a fight. My beautiful, caring, strong and basically my hero, my sister-in-law Ellie who sadly passed away in early August. Ellie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia back in February this year and endured a number of intrusive chemo sessions, numerous biopsies and tests. This form of leukaemia is more commonly found in adults and was proving a bugger to evict (and its eviction notice had well and truly been served!!) Unfortunately there was no treatment available to help Ellie in her battle and the cancer eventually spread to her whole body. Ellie spent her last few weeks at home surrounded by her family and friends and fulfilled all her last wishes. To say she was brave is an understatement. Ellie was everything a 13-year-old girl should be fun, cheeky, demanding but every bit caring, always putting other first, right until the end. She showed me that even when things seem to be going against you, you can still smile AND boy did her smile light up a room. So, for the little help that I can offer in these testing times I, along with some of my amazing girlfriends will be participating in the Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle race, at London’s Queen Elizabeth Park, on 10th September. I hurt my knee back in March and have been eager to get the all clear so I can participate in helping raise much needed funds for cancer research and the UCLH Teenage Cancer Ward who supported Ellie during her time there. I am determined to be fit enough to get through this course and make my nan and Ellie proud, just as they do me every day. Cancer research is funded by you and only you, the public. Please give whatever you can, no matter the amount, to ensure that those who are searching for cures can continue in their great work. TOGETHER WE WILL BEAT CANCER!!!
