This year has been about changing my story all thanks to research into cancer, so it's time to pay something back.

I have a very special reason for running the Race for Life this year. Like most families mine has been affected and devastated by cancer way too many times. Thanks to research into cancers I have been given the chance to take some control over my own story. I have a variant BRCA2 gene which puts me at a higher risk of developing some cancers and after years of surveillance at the end of last year I took the first steps at reducing my risks by having surgery. If it was not for research into cancer my family's genetic kink would not have been identified and I would not be in such a privileged position to be able to take the steps that I am. So as a healthy youngish woman I am pulling on my trainers and attempting to run/walk/crawl 10k to raise some money for this worthy cause and to raise awareness of the wonderful things that Cancer Research UK do.
