My Story
I would never imagined the result I received when I went for my first smear, urgent appointment the letter said, 3 days later. Surely this could not be good news. No words could describe how I felt when the consultant said I had cancerous cells at the worst degree and need to act quickly, soon enough more investigation was happening, appointments here and there until the decision was made for me to have a loop biopsy to remove 45% of my cervix. Chemotherapy was an option if it didn’t work...hysterectomy if that didn’t work!! I was 25 and scared, I had a daughter to look after. Thankfully after the operation and going back and forth for constant check ups to make sure the cells hadn’t come back I was in the clear. Being diagnosed with cervical cancer was one of the scariest moments of my life but with the quick help and a successful operation I was in the clear. A smear test lasts 5 minutes, the impact of cervical cancer lasts a lifetime. Attend your smear test. Reduce your risk!! 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
