100 skips a day

Sun 6 Nov 2022

My Story

Throughout October we (Mel, Lou & Bec) will be skipping everyday doing a minimum of 100 skips a day to raise money for cancer research UK. Every year we aim to do something for charity and this year we chose this charity as it is a charity close to our heart and we are dedicating our skips to the strongest lady we know, our lovely Nanny Kit. It was 2005 and after suffering with pain during a bowls game which she absolutely loved, she had to take a trip to the doctors who straight away told her that she needed to get to hospital and once arrived was told the dreaded news that she had Stage 4 Bladder Cancer and the next time she would be going home, she would be leaving without a bladder, her womb and her ovaries but she did adopt a bag, which needs re fitting every 3 days and this still stands to this day. The first 6 months had been going great, until her 6 month check up when she was told the cancer had come back. This meaning she would endure a long road of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which sadly have had lasting effects on her and cause her pain and issues everyday still to this day. Our nan, the most courageous, uplifting, caring and admirable lady finally got the clear of cancer in 2010 and that is a year that as a family we will never forget and forever be thankful of that news. Although she is clear of cancer physically, mentally it will never go away for our nan. I’ve sat with her today and spoken with her about her story and even writing this I am still in such awe of her braveness. Our nanny kit, you forever make us proud. Now it’s time for us to make you proud, every skip is for you! ❤️
