My Story
The C word. Everyone is affected by cancer in some way. We all know somebody who has or has had it and know how much it changes lives. Personally, I have experienced cancer and it's life changing events from a fairly young age. Most notably I lost my auntie to cervical cancer when I was 11. I remember the whole thing; the stress, the exhaustion, the pain, the grief. It was heart breaking to watch this vibrant, strong willed, larger than life lady transform into someone who was weak and frail and absolutely terrified. My late grandad also had cancer. It completely changed the way he and my nan lived and I think the stress and pressure of it all lead my nan to an early grave. Only last year we were struck with the news that cancer will be effecting my boyrfriend's family too. To sit there and know how difficult this journey is going to be for them, having been through it more than once, was truly agonising. We shouldn't have to feel that pain anymore. We shouldn't be experienced in losing people unexpectedly to cancer. Taking part in this 5k (I wasn't too confident in my little legs managing the 10!) is one way of raising more money to help beat this long fight against cancer. So if you could spare a bit of cash to help what I think is a brilliant cause, I know that myself and all the people effected by this awful disease will be truly grateful. Thank you.
