My Story

I was diagnosed with two grade 3 invasive cancers in early 2020, and now that I have completed surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and remain only on preventative treatments, I want to help fund research into further treatment and cures for cancer. Raising funds for the UK’s largest cancer charity is the best way I can think of to do this. I am therefore raising money for Cancer Research UK by taking part in their annual night-time marathon walk through central London. The event is called “Shine Night Walk”, and it takes place on September 23rd/24th 2023. You can find more information about the event here: https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/get-involved/find-an-event/charity-walks/shine-night-walk/shine-night-walk-london I should probably explain that I am definitely not an athlete. This is going to be really difficult for me to do! I’ve been using my phone to track my daily steps for quite a while, and right after I finished active treatment for cancer I started out at an average of 477 steps per day in March 2021. By January 2023, I’ve managed to increase this to an average of 3,623 steps per day. It’s a good improvement, but I’m still a way from completing a marathon, which will apparently be about 63,000 steps. I will get there though! If you sponsor me it’ll provide a huge incentive. Even if it’s only the cost of a coffee or a bar of chocolate. It all adds up. If you’re a UK taxpayer don’t forget to use that option when you sponsor me too, for a bit extra. It still seems incredible to me that 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s ground breaking work. Sponsor me today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured, and hopefully you’ll never have to experience what I and so many others already have. Thank you.

CAUSE

Breast cancer

With almost 140 women diagnosed every day, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. And, although rarer, around 350 men are also diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The good news is more than two-thirds of women now survive 20 years or more. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to diagnose and treat the disease.
