My Story
Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life Pretty Muddy to raise money and save lives. Cancer is that cruel disease that affects far too many people. We all know someone who is suffering or have lost someone as a result of it. This is something that has turned our lives upside down over the past 8 months. Never in a million years did I expect to return home from my honeymoon last year and buying our first home, to be smacked in the face with the news of my dad being diagnosed with bowel cancer followed by my absolute rock of a husband being critically ill in hospital, later discovering he too had cancer of the bowel which had spread to his liver where there were 6 further tumours. Both of them have endured intensive chemotherapy. Thankfully my dad appears to be smashing cancer and my hubby is being unbelievably strong during his battle. I couldnt be more proud of him. He has just undergone 13 hours of major surgery at Kings to remove half his liver, his gallbladder and 2 further ops on his bowel. However after 2 weeks of intensive care, ambulances and constant extra scares he is finally home recovering. He will be finding out a little more about what the future holds shortly having been given the devastating news that his tumours have 70% chance of returning within a year. Even more recently to Ricky, my lovely friend Sarah has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour and she too is having lots of treatment to try everything she can to battle this nasty illness after her little boy Joshua saved her life having collapsed with a seizure. So my sister-in-law (officially one day!!) Jess and I have decided to try and do our bit for cancer to try and raise as much as we can to help find more cures out there to help all these people who truly do not deserve the suffering they have been handed with.
