My Story
I’m running the London Marathon on 2nd October to help raise vital funds for CRUK having been fortunate enough to receive curative treatment for breast cancer. 1:7 of us will get breast cancer, 32 people in the U.K. die from it daily. CRUK are working towards prevention, better treatments and improving survival. In July 2021 I found a breast lump which was confirmed as triple negative breast cancer. I had 5 months of chemo finishing Jan ‘22 followed by a double mastectomy in Feb. I am lucky, there was a complete pathological response to treatment. But the side effects of treatment were awful, my two young girls had to watch my hair, eyebrows & eyelashes fall out. Then see me have both breasts surgically removed. Treatment caused me to go into menopause aged 41. I am left with cancer related cognitive impairment & numbness in my hands and feet. When I run I can’t feel my feet which makes it difficult but I’ve learned to adapt and only face plant occasionally. I’ve never run a marathon before, but I wanted to set myself a challenge during treatment and to get as fit as possible before the next surgery to remove my ovaries. CRUK have given me a charity place and the opportunity to do something positive to give something back and support an amazing charity. Thank you for your support.
