My Story
I’m raising money for cancer research as this charity is very close to my heart at the moment. Unfortunately January 2017 my dad was diagnosed with waldenstrom macroglobulinemia cancer. This is a very rare cancer which has only affected 400 people worldwide. This cancer runs through your blood and can’t ever be cured, can only be prolonged. This changed my families life completely but most of all changed my Dads which was heartbreaking to watch. He was then told in December 2017 his chemo treatment would need to start as his symptoms had changed. I felt so hopeless watching a loved one go through this, it’s devastating. He has been amazing through all of this and I’m so proud of him. My way of showing him just how proud I am is by facing one of my fears and jumping out of a plane. If my dad can be so brave and get up everyday and face this for the rest of his life then I can get up off my backside and get it in a plane and jump! My fearful experience only lasts under half an hour, his lasts for life! When I’m doing this I’ll also be thinking of other family members close to my heart who sadly lost their life with cancer and other illnesses such as stroke, alzheimer's, and kidney failure. Loosing a family member is never easy but when you’ve faced loosing as many as we have within two years you do want to do something to show you are not letting these horrible diseases defeat you and we’ll keep fighting. I’m looking to jump out this plane round about May/June time, by then my dad will be more than half way through his treatment. It would be much appreciated if you would sponsor me and it would mean a lot to my family. I have made my target £800 if I get that I’ll be more than happy!! I have attached my donation page at the bottom of this status and look forward to sharing my experience with you all. Because of the overwhelming response I’ve had in a month exactly I am now cheering my dad on and showing him support by not only doing the skydive but taken part in the Great Wall of China walk with cancer research on the 13th October. I am so grateful for this opportunity and cannot thank everyone who has sponsored me so far, your support and donations have been so appreciated. Much love Megan x #CancerRightNow
