My Story
September is Thyroid Cancer awareness month, an illness which is very close to our hearts. No one can prepare you for the unexpected news of a diagnosis and the life changing impact the journey has on your life. Thyroid Cancer is rare, but numbers are rising. Currently, this stands at approximately 2,700 new cases in the UK each year. More prevalent in women than men (at a ratio of 2 to 1), Thyroid Cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy. The most common Thyroid Cancers are known as “differentiated”, these are papillary and follicular cancers. Follicular cancer may include a variant called Hurthle cell. We want to use this walk as an opportunity to raise awareness of Thyroid Cancer, as well as thank Cancer Research UK, Macmillian, Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust and Maggie’s for all of their amazing work in managing and curing cancer. Please donate to my Giving Page to help find more ways to overcome cancer and support people going through their own journeys every day!
