In loving memory of Martin James Walton.
In memory of
Martin James Walton
Martin moved to Ludham, Norfolk in 1958, after studying at Birmingham City Art School. He was inspired by the big Norfolk skies and was encouraged in his painting of the landscapes by Edward Seago. He also met Lady Munnings when he was painting in Dedham. His work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy and he has held exhibitions of his work in London, Norwich and elsewhere. A long-term member of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, Martin frequently expressed his concerns about modern housing and influenced the design of a row of new houses in Ludham. He met Nancy in the 1970s and they made a very happy life together. Martin and Nancy, a conservationist and teacher, were instrumental in raising the profile of the CPRE Norfolk Awards, which reward best practice built and environmental projects across the county. Martin painted all his life, moving from landscapes to colourful modern expressionist abstracts. He and Nancy made a beautiful garden which they opened to the public and were very well known in the area. Donations in Martin's memory can also be made on the day of the funeral in person or to the funeral director Nicholas E.
