Stand Up To Cancer with One Life Left and help us level up cancer research! Could you get your friends and family to sponsor you to play games all day?? On Sunday 5th November 9am – 9pm we’re holding a 12-hour gaming marathon and we need your support! We are looking for people aged over 18 to take part in the marathon and help us with donations, all going to Stand Up To Cancer. To get involved you’ll need to register with us in advance, starting now! Spaces in the café will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Once you’ve registered with us, share this page with your family and friends and get as many people as you can, to donate as much as they can, for this very worthy cause! There will be prizes for those who can raise the most donations, so please make sure your sponsors mention you in the donation comments! We are asking participants for a £20 fee at the time of registration, which goes to One Life Left to cover a portion of the running costs of the event itself (please be aware that this is NOT A DONATION, it is purely to help fund the event, thanks!). This gives you full access to the whole café for the whole 12 hours - crazy cheap compared to our regular screen hire! We’ll be streaming the event at various times throughout the day too. If you want to bring your own laptop, or stream from your own accounts then this is encouraged too! Specific activities on the day will be a mix of casual play, competitions, tournaments, challenges and raffles, there’ll be something for everyone. Feel free to attend in your favourite videogame cosplay too! While the event is a 12-hour marathon, regular breaks will be encouraged as players swap screens etc. and refreshments will be available. Spectators are welcome and any donations will be gratefully received! To find out more, please send us a message at https://www.facebook.com/onelifeleftnor/ , email us at info@onelifeleft.net , call on 01603 631114 or come and see us in the café! Can’t make it on the day? You can make a donation right here right now! Donating through this page is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK. About the organiser: Hi everyone, it’s time for the credits: Press Start to return to title screen, although you might miss the secret ending! My name is Mark and I’m working with One Life Left to try and make this a memorable and successful event for everyone. Did you know that 1 in 2 of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetimes, and every 4 minutes, someone in the UK dies from it? In the course of this marathon, that would be 180 people lost to this most insidious of diseases. Like most people nowadays, I have friends or family members that have been diagnosed with cancer at some point. They recovered from the disease, partly thanks to the advances in cancer research that has seen survival rates double (from 24% to 50%) in the last 40 years. But there is still work to be done. The disease comes in many forms, and there are still types of cancer that carry a death sentence for those diagnosed. I hope that this event can bring people together in the shared goal of giving cancer researchers the turbo mushrooms they need to boost the development of novel and effective treatments for all cancers. So, come and join us in November, and help beat one of the hardest end-game bosses ever! Finally, a big thanks to: Jon and the OLL crew for helping organise, and kindly agreeing for me to use their venue; Woj, James, Sam, Steve G and especially Shaun, for extra advice, guidance and donations of time or things; Alex for her continued support of my follies; and finally, my mum and step mum, for standing up to cancer and winning. Love games, hate cancer. Thanks, Mark.
CAUSE
Stand Up to Cancer: LIFE-SAVING RESEARCH
100% of the money you raise goes towards speeding up life-saving research. Every day, scientists and researchers work tirelessly to beat cancer. But lab researchers will not get us there alone. Every penny raised helps speed up breakthroughs in the lab, transforming them into new tests and treatments for patients who need them. The research you fund will help us see 3 in 4 people in the UK survive their cancer by 2034.
